The James Caird Society is a registered charity preserving the history of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. Blue Ant designed, produced and installed a new information panel incorporating an existing commemorative plaque.
The plaque is fitted at Dulwich College to accompany their display of Shackleton’s boat ‘The James Caird’, the 23 foot-(8m-) long whaler in which Sir Ernest Shackleton and five companions made the epic open boat voyage of 800m (l,300 km) from Elephant Island, 500 miles (800 km) south of Cape Horn, to South Georgia during the Antarctic winter of l9l6.
A new replica of the James Caird is being built in New Zealand which will feature in a new film – Shackleton’s Captain – shedding new light on events of the Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition expedition and the often overlooked role played by Captain Frank Worsley. The film is a co-production between Making Movies NZ and Gebrueder Beetz Film Produktion, Germany and due for release in 2011.Design
