Lest We Forget: Medway’s First World War was an installation and exhibition at Rochester Cathedral where visitors could explore the stories of local soldiers from WW1. Blue Ant were commissioned by the Cathedral to design and build a WW1-inspired remembrance installation, generously supported by Heritage Lottery Fund’s First World War programme. A large wooden structure, draped in camouflage and wrapped in barbed wire, formed a centrepiece, representing an image of war but also a place to reflect. An array of large panels told the personal stories of local soldiers, researched and written by young people from the Medway Youth Parliament. Visitors were invited to write the name of friends or family members who served in the war on custom made dog tags, which were hung on the installation as an act of remembrance. We also designed and produced a ‘prayer station’ focusing on current conflict around the world.
